It is with heavy hearts and much emotion that we must share some heartbreaking news we received yesterday. Despite our best efforts with high dose chemotherapy, Curtis' latest MRI is showing his disease has continued to progress and has spread further into his bones. As a result, we will no longer be travelling to Toronto for a stem cell transplant. Curtis' doctors feel that subjecting him to further high dose chemotherapy will not be beneficial, and could in fact be harmful. Our doctors, and all the people we love so dearly at CHEO, are refusing to give up hope, and will be spending this weekend exploring options for us going forward. At this point, it's felt our best hope will be a combination of radiation therapy and immune therapy.
As always,we appreciate your support. While we remain in shock from this news, we also remain hopeful that the wonderful doctors and nurses at CHEO will help us to beat this disease. Anna, our case manager at CHEO, said it best this afternoon - "Curtis will make history". We believe this from the bottom of our hearts. Curtis will make history and he will survive.

Posted by: Emma at September 17, 2005 11:17 AMI just saw Curtis' story online... although I have never met Curtis I pray for his recovery...
Lord, we come to you with thankful hearts... You have blessed the Porter family with little Curtis. In this time of need we also come with faithful hearts. Although the Porter family, friends and doctors are diligently working within their powers to help Curtis, it is only through your power, love and grace that the much needed miracle can happen in Curtis' life. We ask and have faith that you will lay your healing hand upon Curtis and remove all trace of the horrible disease from his body. Let Curtis be a witness to your never ending love.
We pray this in faith. Amen.

I am so shocked to hear the news. Meeting your family on Friday and enjoying the afternoon together, this came as a surprise. Curtis is not the only one that is brave and strong.
My heart goes out to you both. Your family is in my prayers.
Curtis has the Arklan Family (Wildcats) thinking of him. We are only a small part in his life. After meeting him on Friday he is a HUGE part of the Arklan family.
We will be thinking of you all.

Posted by: Robyn Majuary at September 18, 2005 11:19 AMHi Trevor, Julie and of course Curtis!
Wow. That is quite a shock to read. I was taken by immense suprise and shock by this news. I'm pleased that all the doctors and nurses and Anna at CHEO will not give up HOPE. Curtis deserves every fighting chance he gets. CHEO will give him the best possible treatment there is! I stand behind you 100 % and Curtis. Don't give up, keep smiling and keep fighting this TERRIBLE disease! It's not an easy battle but you show them Curtis that you can do it! You are a strong little boy and I hope to have you meet Katie in the near future I'm sure she'd love to sit and play with you! May God be watching over you! I know we are and all the doctors and Nurses, CHEO is known for never ever giving up!!!!!!!! Keep your heads high and do everything you can to KILL THAT BEAST!
No little boy or girl should be going through what Curtis is going through but remember how resiliant they are and how strong they are. At times they pick us up!
Our Thoughts and Prayers are with you.
Grandma Gwen I have the hope Charm I said I'd get for you but I misplaced your address, so if one of you could send it to me I'd appreciate it. I want you to have it during these very trying times!

Hello to all who post comments - some of you I know, most I don't. I am one of Curtis' grandmothers and I just wanted to express how much it means to me to read your messages so full of hope & prayers for Curtis. It really lifts my spirits to know so many people care - thank you!!
Julie, Trevor and Curtis,
You are in our thoughts and prayers during this very trying time in your lives. We love you all, and KNOW that Curtis is going to come back with a clear MRI this week, and you will be off to Toronto to have the stem cell transplant. We will be thinking of you this week and are praying that God will make all of our hopes and prayers a reality.
Love Lee and Dave
Dear Porter Family,
We pray for you each and every night. Your story on CJOH news last evening brought tears to our eyes. With a boy of our own the same age as Curtis we are deeply touched by his story and courage. I pray his MRI later this week comes back with good news for all. You don't know us but we have been following your story and feel as though we know you.
God Bless You All!
